Caroline Garcia (b. 1988. Sydney, Australia) is a culturally promiscuous, interdisciplinary artist based in Brooklyn, NY. She works across performance, video, and installation through a hybridized aesthetic of cross-cultural movement, embodied research, and new media. Her most recent body of work draws from Indigenous Filipino practices of headhunting and martial arts, all as a way of processing grief – a grief from matriarchal loss – as an individual and in the postcolonial Filipinx diaspora. Flirting with transgressions, she invites a critical engagement with violence for non-hegemonic bodies and welcomes the potency of rage as a rendition of criticality.

Caroline has presented work at The Shed, Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, Lincoln Center, New York Live Arts, Spring/Break Art Fair, Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts, Movement Research at Judson Church, Smack Mellon, Creative Time Summit X, A.I.R. Biennale, and Hesse Flatow; among others. She was in residence at The Studios at MASS MoCA (2019), awarded the Edwards Charitable Giving Trust Residency at ISCP (2020), a Tech Resident at Pioneer Works and an Experimental Projects resident at the Institute for Electronic Arts (all 2021), and a Recess Session artist (2022). She is a 2021 New York Artadia Awardee and a Franklin Furnace Fund Grantee.
